Tuesday Reflections presents Ms. Elizabeth Cohen, Associate Professor in
the English Department, speaking on "The Correlation between Poetry and the
Pandemic" on *Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at 4:30pm* in the Cardinal Lounge-
Angell College Center. Below is an abstract of Ms. Cohen's presentation.

The poems in Elizabeth Cohen's fifth book of poems, *Wonder Electric*,
address such topics as pandemic, gun violence, whale beachings,
environmental disasters, family dynamics and more. Written in Joshua Tree,
California ,last summer, these poems explore the pandemic experience...and
she is not alone. There are literally thousands of publications from 2020,
including anthologies and many more online publications featuring the works
of poets on the pandemic experience. Some research Cohen undertook revealed
that poetry and pandemics are established bedfellows. Poets have been
writing about and during pandemics for centuries. Cohen traces back and
visits some of these writings and ponders the reason poets are so drawn to
the topic and the different ways they explore it.

Bring a pen. We will write a pandemic poem during this talk.
