On Friday, November 19, at 7:30pm, the SUNY Plattsburgh Symphonic Band will
perform for the first time in two years. The ensemble did not perform live
concerts for the past three semesters as a consequence of the Covid
pandemic and returns to live performance with its program entitled
“Climbing Out of Covid.” Under the direction of Daniel Gordon, the ensemble
will perform a short program of works that demonstrate how it has dealt
with the vagaries of pandemic conditions. The program consists of By Murray
Houllif*’s Flamenco!*, the world premiere of Daniel Gordon’s *The Rise and
Fall of Covid-19*, Bach’s Prelude and Fugue in G minor in a transcription
by Martin Moehlmann, Pertti Pekkanen’s *Joker*, and closing with Frank
Ticheli’s *American Elegy*. Gordon will provide spoken commentary on each
piece. The concert takes place at E. Glenn Giltz Auditorium on the
Plattsburgh State campus and is free and open to the public. Masking and
social distancing are required.
