To all Faculty, Staff, and Students:

We are writing to inform you of some important upcoming changes that will
affect our Google Drive storage.

Google has notified all higher-education customers, including SUNY
Plattsburgh, that in July 2022 they will be *discontinuing our free
unlimited Google Drive storage*. The new storage model provides a
significantly reduced maximum storage capacity for our campus.

We are currently using more space than will be available in the new model.
As such, we have developed a plan to address the issue.

*What's changing?*
Alumni accounts will be given quotas, as the Google decision means we are
unable to provide them with unlimited space.

*Will my storage be impacted?*
No. Active faculty, staff, and students will continue to have unlimited
storage.

*What actions do I need to take right now?*
You can help us by voluntarily checking your Drive account and deleting all
files and folders you no longer need. Follow these steps:

   1. Use Google quota tool <https://drive.google.com/drive/quota> to check
the amount of space you are using and identify large files.
   2. Select all files and folders you no longer need, then delete them.

By reducing your storage space, you are helping us to meet our goal to
avoid placing quotas on active student or employee accounts. Over the next
year we will be monitoring our space utilization. We will provide additional
guidance should further actions be necessary.
