NASA has chosen Shine On to host a rare live downlink with the
International Space Station as part of its annual conference. This will
provide K-8 students from throughout NYS the opportunity to learn more
about STEM careers and the importance of character.

This is where you come in. We are looking for 25-minute virtual workshops
to include in the day-long conference.

Our goal is to build interest in STEM by illustrating how character plays a
role in problem-solving. Anyone can host a workshop! Get creative! This
isn’t just for science-types. Think: history of space, writing about space,
space art, How do astronauts exercise in space? Music of space themed
movies. Who doesn’t cry to Aerosmith during Armegeddon? It doesn’t even
have to be just space-related. Any topic using STEM to get kids thinking
about problem solving counts. This could be a great opportunity to involve
your SUNY students to engage with K-8 students throughout the state. We
need 36 fantastic workshops for all different grade levels. Proposals are
coming in from teachers and STEM professionals, but we wanted to give our
own faculty/staff/students an opportunity to get involved, too. To learn
more, visit shineongirl.org or email us at shineonpsu at gmail.com.
