Past Institute Fellow and retired professor of sociology Dr. Charles
Simpson joins Institute director Dr. Jonathan Slater in a wide-ranging
conversation about food insecurity. Charles has written extensively about
environmental responsibility and threats to agricultural systems.During his
34 years on the SUNY Plattsburgh faculty, Charles co-directed the college's
Southern Mexico Program, a semester-long study abroad experience for
liberal arts, nursing, and education students. Charles recently has had his
first novel, Uncertain Harvest, published by Fomite. The work leads the
reader on a global chase after “a reporter stumbles on a plot by an
international corporation to use genetic technology to monopolize the
world's food production and destroy ecosystems.”
