A vibrant society and strong economy thrive on a well-educated and engaged
workforce. Promoting undergraduate research supports these goals by
cultivating future generations of creative and critical thinkers, which in
turn fosters the nation’s leadership in problem-solving and innovation.
What are some of the ways higher education can reinforce its commitment to
undergraduate research and further support faculty involved in mentoring
undergraduate researchers?

Past Institute Fellow Dr. Anreas Stamatis — associate professor,
undergraduate program coordinator, and lab director in the exercise and
nutrition sciences program at SUNY Plattsburgh — will be joined by prize
winning undergraduate researchers Arriana Patraw, Lindsay Guzzetta and
Lauren Chin. Also contributing to the colloquy will be Dr. Peter W.
Grandjean, dean and professor of exercise science, The University of
Mississippi; Dr. Grant B. Morgan, associate professor and chair of
educational psychology, Baylor University; Dr. Zacharias Papadakis,
assistant professor and lab director of sport and exercise sciences, Barry
University; and SUNY Plattsburgh lecturer Lisa A. Vicencio, who serves as
the college’s associate head athletic trainer.

The Institute for Ethics in Public Life is generously supported by gifts to
the Plattsburgh College Foundation. For further information about the
Ethics Institute, contact Dr. Jonathan Slater, director, at

the entire SUNY Plattsburgh community.
