Tom Moran has held a number of pivotal roles at SUNY Plattsburgh over his
long career at the college. Most recently, Tom has been engaged in a new
project, “Keeping the Flame,” which he explains here:
As I entered retirement a few years ago and began to go through the papers
I had accumulated in my 50-year association with the college, I realized
that over the years, I had given talks commemorating a wide range of people
who had made exemplary and profound contributions to the college.
It occurred to me that collecting those talks was a way of honoring their
work and their commitments; and as importantly, their stories are worthy of
emulation. It was at that point, I recognized that I should try to collect
those talks and share them with others. It seemed in its own way an effort
at keeping the flame of what is best in our institutional life alive.
You can access “Keeping the Flame” and read many of Tom’s talks, located in
the alumni pages of the SUNY Plattsburgh website: https://bit.ly/3uZpwbM.
The Institute for Ethics in Public Life is generously supported by gifts to
the Plattsburgh College Foundation. For information about the Ethics
Institute, contact Dr. Jonathan Slater, director, at

the entire SUNY Plattsburgh Community.
