SENT ON BEHALF OF MICHAEL SIMPSON, DIRECTOR OF SPONSORED RESEARCH AND
PROGRAMS

The UUP Joint-Labor Management Individual Development Award Program (IDAP)
is now available to full and part time members of UUP (Professional
Services Negotiation Unit 8). Please note that the State guidelines for
this program have changed. Those guidelines should be reviewed prior to
applying and are available here
<https://goer.ny.gov/system/files/documents/2021/03/individual-development-award-program-guidelines.pdf>
.

The biggest change is that no consumable supplies are allowed—even if an
argument can be made in favor of their professional development (no books,
no DVDs, no art or research supplies, etc.). Also, CEUs are no longer
eligible under the IDAP program. As there is now a separate and distinct
program for UUP members needing assistance with CEUs.
There are three eligible activities:
• Workshop/seminar attendance/tuition (see guidelines for tuition
eligibility),
• Conference Participation, and
• Conference Attendance.
All activities must occur or have occurred between July 2, 2020 and July 1,
2021 to be eligible for this round of funding.
Those activities may be virtual or in-person, but must be live events.
As with last year, the campus recognizes that COVID-19 has made it
impractical for many to attend eligible events. It is also noted that
given NYS COVID-19 travel restrictions that many applications will be
retroactive in nature and that in order to attend an event or workshop that
most people would have had to front those expenditures personally (an
additional barrier to participation). We have already petitioned the State
to allow funds to carry into next year and are awaiting a response. Plans
are already in motion to ensure a timelier competition in 2021/2022.

Deadline to apply: April 22, 2021
Notifications will be made by email as soon as practical after the
committee can meet to review the applications.
