Please be aware that there are fraudulent job postings and emails
circulating. We work hard to make sure the employers who post openings in
Handshake are legitimate. But sometimes scammers figure out how to email
students. If you know students who receive an email that they suspect is
fraudulent, please ask them to forward it to career at plattsburgh.edu, delete
it, and do NOT correspond with the sender.
Here are some signs to watch for:
· The job description is overly generic. For example, lots of
administrative work but no details about what industry the job is in, and
no specific skills are required.
· The hourly or weekly pay seem too high, for work that requires
generic skills.
· They are being asked to cash checks, and/or deposit them.
· They are being contacted about a position that they didn’t apply
for. Legitimate employers in Handshake only have access to public profiles
AFTER students have applied to their job posting, accepted an interview
request, or RSVP’d to an event.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me should you have any questions about a
job offer or posting that concerns you or a student of yours.
