[Important Information for Students] Phishing Alert: Do not respond to Fraudulent "Emergency Notification" email

Good afternoon,

As mentioned in the security alert we posted in our portal in few hours
ago, we are aware of a *phishing email currently circulating on campus*
that appears to come from a SUNY Plattsburgh account with the subject:

*“[Official] SUNY Plattsburgh Emergency Notifications”*

This message is *fraudulent* and was sent from a *compromised campus
account*. It is *not a legitimate communication from Information Technology
Services*.

The email attempts to create urgency and directs recipients to click a link
to “complete a process” to avoid account suspension. *Do not click any
links or provide any information.*
🚩 Key signs this is a phishing message:

   - Urgent or threatening language (e.g., “final notice,” “account
   termination”)
   - Requests to verify or “authenticate” your account
   - Suspicious or malformed links (including incorrect URLs)
   - Contact information that does not match official campus resources

✅ What you should do:

   - *Do not click the link or reply to the message*
   - *Delete the email immediately*
   - If you clicked the link or entered any information, *contact the ITS
   Help Desk right away*

🔐 Reminder:

ITS will *never ask you to verify your account or credentials through
unsolicited email links*.

We have addressed the compromised account(s) and taking steps to prevent
further messages.
