Dear Campus Community,
This is a reminder of SUNY Plattsburgh’s *Child and Youth Protection Policy*
<https://www.plattsburgh.edu/about/offices-divisions/administration-finance/policies-procedures/campus-handbook/section-viii-health-safety/child-protection-policy.html>,
approved by the Executive Council in Summer 2015. The policy supplements
SUNY Policy #6504- Mandatory Reporting and Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse
and SUNY Policy #6505- Child Protection Policy, and provides procedures
that implement all three policies.
- *The policy requires that any employees, agents, students, volunteers,
and employees of the university, university-affiliated organizations, and
third-party organizations, planning to hold activities on campus involving
the custody, control, or supervision of children or youth, must have the
event reviewed and must ensure that all personnel directly responsible for
children receive proper training and follow established standards of
conduct. *
- *The policy requires that all covered persons and responsible
university officials are required to immediately report any suspected
physical abuse or sexual abuse of a child / youth to University Police and
provide to University Police a written report of suspected physical or
sexual abuse. *
For this policy, a *child/youth* is defined as anyone under the age of 17
who is participating in a *covered activity**.
*A *covered activity* is an activity or program that is sponsored or
approved by the University, a university-affiliated organization, or a
third-party group, and takes place on or off campus, is covered by this
policy when the University, the affiliated organization, or the third party
is responsible for the custody, care, or supervision of children or youth.
This policy does not apply to child care centers on university property or
to regular instructional activities connected to enrollment in
credit-bearing university courses.
