Dear Students,

On March 1st the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) ended the 5-day
isolation guidance for people who test positive for COVID. What does this
mean for you?

Streamlined Advice for All Respiratory Viruses

If possible, stay home and away from others if you have symptoms of a
respiratory virus. Symptoms of respiratory viruses such as RSV, flu and
COVID include fever (a temperature of 100.4 F/38.0 C or greater), cough,
runny nose, nasal congestion, sore throat, fatigue and headache. You can
go back to your normal activities when, for at least 24 hours:

   -

Your symptoms are getting better overall, and
   -

You have not had a fever (and are not using fever-reducing medications)

When you return to your normal activities, take added precautions over the
next 5 days, such as physical distancing, wearing a mask and good hand
hygiene. You can read more about the CDC’s respiratory guidance here
<https://www.cdc.gov/respiratory-viruses/guidance/respiratory-virus-guidance.html>
.

Less Testing

Students with respiratory illnesses, who book an appointment with a Student
Health & Counseling Center (SHCC) medical provider, will no longer be
routinely tested for COVID. We will still test students who are at high
risk of severe illness (such as those who are immunocompromised
<https://www.cdc.gov/ncird/whats-new/antiviral-treatments.html?CDC_AA_refVal=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cdc.gov%2Frespiratory-viruses%2Fwhats-new%2Fantiviral-treatments.html>)
so that we can promptly offer treatment to those who test positive. If you
are not at high risk for severe illness, but still want to test, we will
provide rapid, at-home test kits until supplies, or expiration dates, run
out.

We care about your wellbeing, and the SHCC is here if you need an
appointment or just need advice on how to prevent illness or how to manage
your symptoms. We can also assist you with over-the-counter medications
and documentation for missed classes and work. You can reach us at
healthcenter at plattsburgh.edu or (518) 564-2187, We are open Monday through
Friday, 8 AM - 4 PM.
