Dear Cardinal Students,
Good morning and welcome to the Spring 2023 semester at SUNY Plattsburgh!
I hope each of you enjoyed the winter break and were able to spend time
recharging and reconnecting with friends and family. And if you are a new
student to campus, welcome to the Cardinal family.
As we begin a new semester, I look forward to seeing the campus return to
life with the beginning of classes, activities, events, and student
services.
As you transition into the semester, I encourage you to check out the Opening
Week Information for New & Returning Students page
<https://www.plattsburgh.edu/current-students/opening-week-information.html>
on our website. And remember that we have many student resources
<https://www.plattsburgh.edu/about/offices-divisions/student-affairs/organizational-structure.html>
available to guide and support each of you throughout the semester.
Please put Winterfest on your calendar! This year’s Winterfest will begin
on Friday, February 10 and run through Sunday February 19, and will include
an outdoor gathering at Hawkins Pond on Saturday, February 18 (weather
permitting) with snowshoeing, ice skating on the pond, music, and other
activities. Be on the lookout for posters and other messages advertising
various events across campus during the festival.
And with Black History Month beginning on February 1, the Office for
Diversity, Equity & Inclusion has plans for a variety of events and
activities that they will host throughout the month. Please watch for
updates and information about these in the Digest and campus emails.
I also want to remind you of the Student Assistance Program
<https://portal.bhsonline.com/auth/hashcode> (SAP) that launched last
November through our Counseling Center
<https://www.plattsburgh.edu/plattslife/health-safety/health-counseling-center/index.html>.
The SAP provides students with 24/7 access to trained counselors and other
professionals who can assist you with issues related to mental health,
cultural diversity, academic and career stress, and legal and financial
concerns. I encourage you to familiarize yourself with these services so
that you are able to access them as needed; they are available to you at no
additional cost and are designed to support you and help you succeed.
I look forward to meeting more of you on campus this semester. When you see
me, I hope that you will stop and say hello. And as always, I invite you to
schedule a time to meet with me more formally during President’s Office
Hours
<https://www.plattsburgh.edu/about/president-leadership/office-hours.html>,
to share ideas about how we can all work together to support and sustain
our vibrant campus.
I wish you much success this semester!
Sincerely,
Dr. Alexander Enyedi
President
