Dear Cardinals,
Today will bring beautiful weather and high temperatures in the 80s. With
the heat, you may have the urge to cool off in our local lakes and
rivers. *PLEASE
DO NOT DO THIS.* Although the surrounding spring air is warm, water
temperatures are still in the 40s, only a few degrees above freezing. The
risk of shock and hypothermia is extremely high, which could easily result
in death.
In addition, please use caution along the banks of rivers and lakes.
Surfaces may be slippery, which could cause an unexpected fall into the
water. During this time of year, snow melt contributes to swift water that
could easily trap someone by strong undertow or being trapped by rocks or
debris in the water.

on cold water hazards and safety.
