Dear Cardinals,
I am writing to welcome you to SUNY Plattsburgh for the fall semester.
What an exciting time this is. Whether you are a new student here or
returning, and whether you are living on campus, near campus, at the branch
campus or farther away, we are here to serve you and help you achieve your
educational goals. The faculty and staff are invested in your success.
I had the wonderful opportunity on Friday to celebrate our faculty and
staff in the Angell College Center. It was a special time to collectively
align our focus on you.
We also celebrated some of those who work so diligently on your behalf. *You
can read more about that here*

.
This included an inaugural award presented to Dr. Michele
Carpentier, assistant vice president for enrollment and student success and
director of special programs. Dr. Carpentier personifies SUNY Plattsburgh
at its best and the annual recognition will be named in her honor.
At the matriculation ceremony welcoming first-year students, I shared five
keys to success for your college experience, tips that it's never too early
to start:
- *Use the freedom of a college experience to stretch yourself. *Take a
course in an area you have never considered before. Join one of our many
clubs focused on something you have not engaged in before.
- *Be open to new friendships. *Students studying at SUNY Plattsburgh
come from across the country and around the world. Their experiences and
perspectives can be very enlightening.
- *Take advantage of this precious time you have as students. *These
years will pass by quickly. Just ask any recent graduate. Imagine you’re
filling a virtual moving box full of all your experiences, activities, and
opportunities.
- *Get to know your faculty members. *They are an outstanding group who
are dedicating their careers to teaching excellence, scholarship, and
student success. Take the risk of showing up at faculty office hours and
get to know student support service staff.
- *Take care of each other and our campus.* We still have a collective
responsibility for each other’s health. Be safe and caring to our community
as well. They’re happy you’re here.
I want you to know how proud I am to be your president. You can expect to
see me around campus or walking up to you with questions. So don’t be
surprised. Just be on the lookout for me and my Cardinal cap.
My best for a great semester.
Dr. Alexander Enyedi
President
