Dear Faculty, Staff and Students,
Please be advised that we are starting to see students with documented
influenza (flu) and it has also struck the greater Plattsburgh community!
*Signs and symptoms of the flu include sudden onset of:*
- Fever of 100.4 or higher or feeling feverish/chills/body aches AND 1
or more of the following:
- Cough
- Sore throat
- Headache
- Fatigue
*If you become ill with the flu:*
- *If you have no underlying medical conditions (such as asthma,
diabetes or heart disease), it is important to rest, keep hydrated and use
medications (such as Tylenol and ibuprofen) as necessary to relieve
symptoms.*
- *Stay home until you are fever-free for 24 hours, without the use of
fever-reducing medications.*
- If you have an underlying medical condition, please call the Student
Health and Counseling Center soon after symptoms begin.
- For more in depth information on how to combat the flu, please visit
our website's patient Educational Handout (page 2): Respiratory
Infection and Flu

*What to do about missed classes:*
- Students should communicate directly with professors by email or phone.
- Faculty is asked to be as flexible as possible and work with students
to ensure that they are not unduly harmed by their absences. Please take
the time to explain to students that the college’s absence policy has not
changed and that they are still responsible for missed work.
*Take steps to prevent the flu:*
- Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze.
- *Follow current campus masking guidelines*.
- Maintain a distance of at least 6 feet from infected individuals.
- Practice good hand hygiene by washing your hands with soap and water,
especially after coughing or sneezing. Alcohol-based hand cleansers are
also effective.
- Get Vaccinated at any local pharmacy:

*Stay healthy!*
