[Important Information for Employees] The Death of Dr. Marion "Mickey" Smith

Dear Campus Community,
We recently learned of the death of Dr. Marion "Mickey" Smith, former member of the faculty of psychology, who died Feb. 2, 2026, in Houston, Texas, where she made her home. She was 83.
Dr. Smith joined the faculty as an assistant professor in the social sciences/psychology department in September 1972. Four years later, she was promoted to associate professor. She left a full-time position at the end of August 1985, opting instead to return for the fall as a lecturer, which she maintained through December 1987.
She served as a school psychologist, then attended SUNY Plattsburgh to earn her master's degree in English, returning to the university as an adjunct in English from July 1994 through her retirement in January 2013. Dr. Smith also volunteered at SUNY Plattsburgh as a docent with the Plattsburgh State Art Museum.
A funeral took place at the Temple Beth Israel cemetery on Main Mill Street in Plattsburgh this morning.
