[Important Information for Employees] The Death of Dr. Stewart Denenberg

Dear Members of our Campus Community,

It is with great sadness that we inform you all of the passing of longtime
computer science professor Dr. Stewart Denenberg, who died Friday, Oct. 3,
2025, at home in Plattsburgh at the age of 86.

Dr. Denenberg, a veteran of the U.S. Navy, where he served as a
mathematician, programmer and technical writer, had earned his bachelor’s
degree in mathematics at Union College in Schenectady and his doctorate in
computer science education at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

In 1977, he joined the faculty at SUNY Plattsburgh as an assistant
professor in computer science. Promoted to associate professor in 1980 and
full professor in 1987, Dr. Denenberg showed a keen interest in ethical
issues involving technology and teaching problem-solving skills. In his
35-year career at SUNY Plattsburgh, he established the university’s
microcomputer lab and served as a director of academic computing and as
department chair.

After retiring in January 2007, he returned to the classroom as an adjunct
the following fall, serving in that capacity from August 2007 through
December 2012.

There are no services. A celebration of Dr. Denenberg’s life will be held
Saturday, Nov. 15 at the West Side Ballroom in Plattsburgh from 11 a.m. to
3 p.m.
