Dear Campus Community Members,

We were very saddened to hear of the untimely death of Michael Bergman,
former Cardinal baseball standout, assistant baseball coach and CAS shuttle
driver, who died as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile
accident Sunday, Oct. 26, 2025, at the age of 42.

Mr. Bergman of Plattsburgh was a member of the Class of 2005, earning a
degree in business. As a pitcher for the Cardinals’ 2002-2005 seasons, he
was a member of the first four-year graduating class since the program
restarted during the 2001-2002 academic year.

As a Cardinal, he pitched two innings in a one-hit game at Gallaudet March
6, 2005, marking just the sixth time in program history, and the first
since its re-founding, that the Cardinals held an opponent to one hit. Mr.
Bergman ranked among the program’s all-time leaders in wins (tied for
fourth, 13), innings pitched (sixth, 167.0), strikeouts (eighth, 101),
games pitched (tied for eighth, 40), games started (tied for eighth, 24)
and saves (tied for ninth, 3). During his senior year, he fashioned a 3.24
ERA and went 5-3 on the mound to go along with 36 strikeouts, helping guide
the Cardinals to a 25-13 overall record —its first winning season since the
program's restart in 2002 — and a SUNYAC Tournament appearance.

He joined the Cardinal athletics staff the September following graduation
May 2005 as assistant coach, a position he held until August 2012. He
returned to campus for a stint driving the College Auxiliary Services
shuttle from June 2019 through February 2020.

A lifelong fan and player of baseball, Mr. Bergman was an avid fan and
season ticket holder of the Montreal Expos.

Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
