[Important Information for Employees] The Death of Leon Stone

Dear Members of our University Community,

We wanted to share the news that 91-year-old Leon Stone, who served as a
cleaner and janitor during four university presidencies, died Tuesday, June
17, 2025 at CVPH Medical Center with his family by his side.

He joined the maintenance and operations department as a cleaner in
September 1967 during the Vietnam War when Dr. George Angell was president
of what was then known as State University of New York College at
Plattsburgh, and was promoted to janitor in August 1974. By his April 21,
1995 retirement, Mr. Stone had served under Dr. Joseph Burke, Dr. Charles
Warren, and Dr. Horace Judson.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday, June 24 from 9 to 9:45 a.m. at the R.W.
Walker Funeral Home, 69 Court St., Plattsburgh. A graveside service will be
held 10 a.m. at St. Peter’s Cemetery, South Catherine Street, in
Plattsburgh.
