[Important Information for Employees] The Death of Bob Richter

Dear Campus Community Members,



It is with great sadness that we inform you of the death of Bob Richter,
lead media services technician in classroom and customer support, who died
way too soon at age 61 Monday, June 16, 2025.

Bob retired four weeks ago, on May 15, after more than 38 years of service.

He joined the staff in September 1986 as an electronic equipment mechanic.
Promoted to information technology specialist in computer and media
services in September 2004, he stayed in that position until his promotion
to assistant director of media services in classroom and customer support
in  June 2008. He was named lead media services technician in January 2022.

Bob earned his associate’s degree in electrical engineering technology from
SUNY Broome Community College in 1983 and his bachelor’s degree from SUNY
Binghamton in electrical and computer engineering in 1986.

In his role at SUNY Plattsburgh, Bob was usually behind the scenes but
known to many for his work. He was responsible for the design and
implementation of campus-wide multimedia classrooms, lecture halls and
conference rooms. He supervised and trained student workers for technical
support, and provided set up and support for live events, including scores
of commencement ceremonies.

Services are incomplete at this time but details will be shared as soon as
they become known. Bob was well-known, well-liked and well-loved by many.
Our condolences to all of those who did. He will be missed.
