[Important Information for Employees] The Death of Dr. Lawrence Giandomenico

Members of our Campus Community,

We were saddened to have learned of the death of Dr. Lawrence “Larry”
Giandomenico, who died Sept. 28, 2024 at the age of 81.

Dr. Giandomenico joined the faculty in teacher education as an associate
professor in 1987 and was promoted to full professor five years later. In
1993, Dr. Lawrence was named associate director for the university’s
graduate program in teacher education.

>From there, he was promoted to associate dean of graduate programs in 1995,
serving through May 1997 in that capacity before returning to his post of
associate director of grad programs through May 1999. At that time, he
returned to teaching and remained on the faculty through May 2013, retiring
in June of that year.

Dr. Giandomenico served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War
19670-1968, flying helicopters and fixing wing aircraft on reconnaissance,
war fighting and rescue missions. The first in his family to receive a
doctorate, which he earned at Penn State in 1971, Dr. Giandomenico was a
school

superintendent in South Dakota on the Cheyenne River Indian Reservation in
Eagle Butte, S.D., in the Berkshires in Sheffield, Mass., and in Berlin,
Conn., before coming to SUNY Plattsburgh. He retired at the age of 70 so
that he and Donna, his wife of 57 years, could divide their time between
their homes in Bradenton, Florida, and Plattsburgh.

There will be a celebration of his life Saturday, Oct. 19 at 10 a.m. at
Valcour Inn and Boathouse, 3714 Route 9, Peru.
