Dear Campus Community,
After an extensive and highly competitive search process, I am pleased to
inform you that Dr. Marcus C. Tye has accepted the position of Provost and
Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs at SUNY Plattsburgh. Dr. Tye will
officially begin this new role on August 1, 2024.
Dr. Tye joins us from Pace University, where he has been serving as Dean
for the College of Health Professions since 2021. Having also formerly
served as Dean for the School of Health Sciences and as Acting Dean for the
School of Education at the College of Staten Island, CUNY, Dr. Tye brings a
wealth of experience in academic leadership to our university. At Pace, he
managed a $72M gross tuition budget, overseeing significant growth and
innovation in student success and program development, achieving a 5%
higher retention rate compared to national averages for similar programs.
He successfully oversaw implementation of over $2M in Health & Human
Services (HHS)/Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA) and other
training grants, and more than $5M in capital projects, while increasing
NCLEX (National Council Licensure Examination for nurses practicing in the
U.S. and Canada) pass rates to a five-year high. During his tenure at CUNY,
Dr. Tye improved retention and rankings for many academic programs while
allocating resources to faculty to support their acquisition of research
funding.
Dr. Tye’s forward-thinking approach, advocacy for shared governance, and
passion for higher education will undoubtedly elevate SUNY Plattsburgh in
this competitive academic market. He is known for his strategic initiatives
in faculty and student support that have fostered a collaborative culture,
resulting in enhanced academic excellence and research productivity.
Additionally, Dr. Tye has a notable record of creating innovative degree
pathways and expanding online education, further demonstrating his
commitment to advancing higher education. He remarked, “The warmth of
everyone I met in the interviews, and their passionate commitment to SUNY
Plattsburgh and the greater community, makes me so enthusiastic about
having the privilege of joining the Cardinal family.”
I am confident that Dr. Tye’s extensive experience and commitment to
academic excellence will be tremendous assets to our community, and I am
