Dear Members of Our Campus Community,

Longtime professor in the Center for Earth and Environmental Science Dr.
Richard Lamb passed away in the home of his daughter and son-in-law in St.
Armand Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2024. He was 80 years old.

Dr. Lamb, of Chazy, could be seen walking to his classes, whether in Hudson
or across the pond in Hawkins, tall and lanky, over the 33 years he taught
at the university. He started his career here in September 1981 as an
assistant professor after attending Buffalo State University before serving
in the U.S. army as a clerk during Vietnam. He worked in the Greene County
Planning Department in the Catskills before attending Chicago State
University where he earned his Ph.D. in geography. Positions at West
Virginia College and SUNY Geneseo led to SUNY Plattsburgh. Here, he was
promoted to associate professor in September 1985 and professor in
September 1996. While teaching, Dr. Lamb also served as a consultant for
many town planning boards in the North Country, including the Town of
Plattsburgh during much of its expansion along Route 3 and Tom Miller Road.

Retiring in June 1913, he served as an adjunct for one more year in 2014.

There will be no calling hours, and funeral services are private and at the
convenience of the family. Burial will take place later in the spring at
Riverview Cemetery in Chazy. Arrangements are in the care of Fortune-Keough
Funeral Home, 20 Church St., Saranac Lake, 518-891-3613,
www.fortunekeoughfuneralhome.com.
