Dear Campus Community,
Welcome to December! As the Fall 2024 semester enters the final two weeks,
I want to provide key updates and reminders as we approach the holiday
season and begin to prepare for the Spring 2025 semester.
1. Financial Stability Plan and All-Funds Budget Unveiled
On 11/21/2024, Magen Renadette, Interim Vice President for Administration
and Finance, presented an important update on our campus budget and
financial outlook. For the first time, an all-funds financial stability
plan was presented, providing a transparent and comprehensive overview of
how SUNY Plattsburgh is navigating its financial landscape to ensure it
meets its institutional priorities.
The full presentation can be viewed here: Fall Budget Presentation 2024
<https://www.plattsburgh.edu/_documents/about/fall-budget-presenation-2024.pdf>
.
The presentation to campus also included an update on existing capital
projects and introduced a space management initiative aimed at optimizing
campus resources.
Overall, the presentation underscored SUNY Plattsburgh’s sound financial
position for the current 2024-2025 fiscal year and provided details of each
funding source at the university, beyond the usual state-side fund (tuition
and state appropriation).
Key Highlights from the Presentation Included:
-
All-Funds Financial Stability Plan: A detailed framework outlining
strategies to align revenue and expenditures, prioritize key initiatives,
and ensure long-term fiscal health.
-
Capital Projects: Progress updates on key campus infrastructure
projects, including renovations and new developments designed to enhance
the academic and student experience.
-
Space Management: Insights into ongoing efforts to maximize the use of
campus spaces, ensuring they meet the needs of students, faculty, and staff
while supporting institutional goals.
2. Student Enrollment Status for Spring 2025 and Fall 2025
Our enrollment outlook for Spring 2025 has shown positive upward momentum
over the past week. There has been a significant surge in year-to-date
registrations (as compared to 2024), particularly in undergraduate
enrollment, with 323 additional registrations recorded over the past seven
days. In addition, new student Winter/Spring 2025 deposits have reached 251
or 72% of our goal.
With respect to Summer/Fall 2025, we are already observing positive
indicators for strong Summer/Fall 2025 new enrollment. As of last week,
undergraduate admissions has received 6378 applications which is an
increase of 16.29% (compared to one year ago); 4161 acceptances have been
processed (+36% year over year) and net deposits stand at 41 versus 21 at
the same time last year.
Currently, graduate admissions is reporting a three year high across the
entire graduate funnel in student applications, acceptances and deposits.
To date, the largest increase in graduate applications has been in Social
Work, Data Analytics, and Clinical Mental Health Counseling programs.
Overall, the stabilization and slight growth in our student enrollment over
the past year reflects the collective effort of the campus community.
This progress is a testament to the strategic alignment of our actions with
the enrollment pillar of the Plattsburgh Next Strategic Plan, which
emphasizes attracting, retaining, and supporting a diverse student body.
>From innovative recruitment strategies to personalized support for our
students, this work highlights the shared commitment of faculty, staff, and
administrators to sustaining our mission of student success. Thank you to
everyone who plays a role in achieving these critical goals—we are shaping
a promising future together.
3 Clinton Community College Updates
Milestone Achieved - CCC Accreditation Reaffirmed
Last week, the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE)
reaffirmed Clinton Community College’s accreditation through 2029-2030,
marking a significant milestone for the institution. This decision follows
a successful monitoring report, a site visit, and approval of CCC and
SUNY’s plan to relocate the primary campus to Beekman and Court Streets in
August 2025.
The MSCHE reaffirmation recognizes the CCC’s progress in governance,
planning, and financial sustainability. CCC’s Fall 2024 enrollment
increased by 12% compared to the prior year, and applications for Spring
2025 are tracking ahead of last year. CCC also reduced its 2023-2024 fiscal
deficit by 25% and continues to focus on improving financial stability and
student outcomes.
Clinton Community College’s transition to its new location reflects a
shared commitment among its leadership and partners to strengthen the
region’s educational resources. Together, we remain focused on supporting
the success of our students and communities.
Transition Information
During November, we made great strides in our transition process with

Fieldhouse to celebrate the achievements of our graduates. Join us as we
honor their hard work, dedication, and accomplishments on this special day.
Honorary Degree Recipient
This year, SUNY Plattsburgh is honored to recognize Sussy Komala-Xu Xi with
an Honorary Degree. A celebrated author, editor, and educator, Sussy is a
Class of ’74 English graduate who has made significant contributions to
literature and creative writing worldwide. Currently holding the
prestigious Jenks Chair in Contemporary Letters at the College of the Holy
Cross, she has published award-winning novels, essays, and stories
recognized by the New York Times, Ploughshares, and the Man Asian Literary
Prize.
As a SUNY Plattsburgh alumna, Sussy has remained closely connected to the
campus, mentoring students and sharing her experiences through events and
presentations. Her commitment to supporting diversity and inclusion is
exemplified by her planned gift to establish the Xu Xi ’74 Endowed
Scholarship. This scholarship will support BIPOC, LGBTQ+, international
students, and those experiencing disabilities.
We look forward to celebrating Sussy Xu Xi for her enduring connection to
SUNY Plattsburgh during the Commencement ceremony.
6. Additional End of Semester Student Celebrations
This year, we are also looking forward to holding the first Commencement
Celebration for Graduate, Online, and Adult Learners, a special event

students. The ceremony will take place at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, 12/13/2024

9. Save the Date: 2025 National Day of Racial HealingMark your calendars
for the 2025 National Day of Racial Healing, taking place on Tuesday,
1/21/2025. SUNY Plattsburgh is proud to join institutions and communities
nationwide in commemorating this annual observance. A variety of programs
and activities are planned throughout the day, including keynote
presentations, roundtable discussions, and racial healing circles.
The National Day of Racial Healing, hosted by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation,
builds on the work of the Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation
community partners, including SUNY Plattsburgh. This day provides an
opportunity to reflect on shared values, embrace our common humanity, and
take collective action toward a more just and equitable world.
In past years, SUNY Plattsburgh’s commemoration has included sessions on
themes such as “Sharing Your Superpowers,” “Finding Common Ground,” “Teach
With Courage on Racial Equity,” and “Eliminating Implicit Bias.” This
year’s event promises equally thought-provoking and impactful programming.

And finally … Please save the date for the Spring 2025 welcome event, which
I will host on Thursday, 1/24/2025, at 9:00 a.m. in the Warren Ballrooms.
This important gathering serves as a moment to reconnect as a campus
community after the winter break and set the tone for the semester ahead.
During the event, I will share key updates on institutional priorities,
progress toward the goals outlined in the Plattsburgh Next Strategic Plan,
and initiatives we’ll undertake in Spring 2025 to further support our
students, faculty, and staff.
In addition, this opening event provides an opportunity to celebrate recent
accomplishments, recognize the collaborative efforts that drive our
success, and reflect on the shared vision that unites us as a campus.
Please join me for this energizing start to the semester—it’s a chance to
come together, foster connections, and discuss how we can collectively
build on the momentum of our achievements. I look forward to seeing you
there!

essential services, you have been instrumental in guiding them on their
journey. As we look ahead to the new year, I am confident that together, we
will continue to build on this progress and achieve even greater success
for our campus community.
Sincerely,
Dr. Alexander Enyedi
President
