Dear Campus Community,
Twenty-two years ago today, our nation faced an unprecedented tragedy that
tested our sense of safety and resilience. And in the face of that
adversity, we saw heroes emerge, demonstrating selflessness, courage, and
the power of unity.
While this day brings many difficult memories, it also reminds us of the
strength we find in coming together, regardless of our backgrounds or
beliefs, to support one another.
SUNY Plattsburgh has long been a beacon of diversity, a place where all
individuals are supported in learning, growing, and contributing to a
brighter future for themselves and for our world.
Our campus is a testament to the power of education in promoting
understanding and fostering a sense of community. We stand for inclusivity,
where every voice is heard and respected. We are committed to equity,
ensuring that everyone has equal access to opportunities for success. And
we champion freedom - the freedom to learn, to express ourselves, and to
pursue our dreams. These are our core principles.
As we honor the memory of those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001,
let us also see today as an opportunity to rededicate ourselves to creating
a campus environment where these principles thrive. Let us continue to
engage in meaningful dialogues, support one another's growth, and work
together to build a more just and compassionate society.
This afternoon at 2pm, Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK) will host an event at the
Hawkins Pond 9/11 Memorial to honor Cardinal alumni who lost their lives on
September 11, 2001, and to provide all on campus a space for reflection and
unity. I encourage you to attend and to participate fully in any and all
learning and discussions about the meaning and impact of this day.
Together, we can ensure that the lessons of September 11, 2001 remain in
our collective memory and guide us toward a brighter and more inclusive
future.
Thank you for being part of our campus community, and for your commitment
to the values that define us. Together, we stand strong.
Sincerely,
Dr. Alexander Enyedi
President
