[Important Information for Employees] Total Solar Eclipse 2024!

Dear Campus Community,

Plattsburgh will be a prime viewing location in the direct path of the next
total solar eclipse in the United States!

On Monday, April 8, 2024, the eclipse will begin at 2:14 pm and reach
totality at 3:25 pm. For a full 3 minutes and 34 seconds, the moon will
completely cover the sun, and our region will experience a 360◦ "sunset"
effect that will darken the sky enough to see planets, bright stars, and
parts of the sun.

This will be the last total solar eclipse of the 21st century that is
visible in New York State, and the SUNY Plattsburgh Eclipse Steering
Committee invites you to be more than a spectator.

Committee members have already begun planning campus and community
activities

and opportunities for all of us to connect, learn, and celebrate. And they
want your ideas, creativity, and involvement.


Are you a student or employee who would like to help plan events that will
take place across campus in the coming year? Would you like to be part of
the culminating celebration on April 8, 2024? Are you a faculty member
looking to weave eclipse-related content into your courses? Are you part of
a group interested in bringing a speaker to campus? Can you create artistic
works related to the event? The possibilities are endless!

Even if you are not sure about exactly how you might contribute, let the
committee know that you are interested by completing the Eclipse 2024
