[Important Information for Employees] The Death of Linda Bouvier RESEND

Dear members of the Campus Community,

We were saddened to have learned about the death of Linda Bouvier,
long-time employee with the Research Foundation who was a fixture in the
Center for the Study of Canada, who died after a long, difficult battle
with dementia Sunday, July 9, 2023. She was 64.

Ms. Bouvier joined the staff at SUNY Plattsburgh with the Center for the
Study of Canada in 1985 as a part-time bookkeeper and was soon made a
full-time employee because of her abilities. She was responsible for
keeping financial records and managing the many accounts of the center,
including state, corporate and Research Foundation accounts. She was
instrumental in computerizing the entire financial records of the center
during her initial years.

She was promoted to clerk III in 1993. During her tenure with the program,
the Canadian Film Distribution Center was established, and Ms. Bouvier
assumed much of the business and bookkeeping of the expanding enterprise.
Additionally, she assumed responsibility for all budgetary matters for the
annual Quebec Winter Symposium, the Ontario Summer Seminar, annual field
trips, Quebec Summer Seminars, summer workshops and more. This included
budget and financial management related to the Southern Cone Programs,
three programs in England,  the Australia program, and the University of
Toronto program. She kept all financial records for study abroad students.
She was also instrumental in a similar capacity for Latin American Studies,
and International Programs and Exchanges.

She was promoted to clerical specialist I in 1994, clerical specialist II
in 2001 and later, project staff assistant, a title she held until her
April 2015 retirement.

Calling hours will be held 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, July 12 at Hamilton
Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru with a funeral service to follow at 4
p.m. in the funeral home chapel. A celebration of life will be held Monday,
July 17 at noon at Ms. Bouvier’s favorite AuSable Point.
