Dear Campus Community,

I appreciated the opportunity to hear from many of our campus members
yesterday at the Faculty Senate meeting as we discussed last week's hoax
call of an active shooter at Plattsburgh High School. Even though the
report was unfounded, I know that the experience was terrifying and
traumatizing for many. And while we are all thankful that no one was
physically harmed, the emotional impact of such an experience was real and
lasting.

As was discussed at the Senate meeting, an after-action analysis will be
conducted next week by Emergency Manager Director, Michael Carraballo. This
analysis will review the events of last Thursday, including our
notification and communications processes and solicit recommendations for
improvement. A report of findings will be shared with campus, as we all
seek more clarity, understanding and further training for this and similar
incidents.

I also want to echo the comments from yesterday's Senate meeting
acknowledging the actions of our University Police, for responding
immediately to the high school unaware that this was a false report, and
being ready to assist as needed.

Finally, please remember that various resources and support systems remain
available to students and employees.

Students are encouraged to contact the Health and Counseling Center at
518-564-3086 / healthcenter at plattsburgh.edu. Students are also reminded
that the Student Assistance Program (SAP) provides free, 24/7 telehealth
counseling by texting or calling 1-800-327-2251 and/or by going online to
portal.BHSonline.com and inputting username: SUNYPlattsburgh.

Additionally, employees are encouraged to contact Kim McCoy Coleman,
Employee Assistance Program Coordinator located in 401A Beaumont Hall, at
eap at plattsburgh.edu for support and for additional referrals to community
resources and services.

As we work together to better understand the events of last Thursday
morning, our larger goal will be a commitment to ensure that our community
is fully informed of our protocols when we respond to incidents of this
nature in the future.

Dr. Alex Enyedi

President
