Dear Campus Community,
Today is the first of our two I've Been Admitted to College (IBAC) days
scheduled for this semester.
At 9:30 am, we will welcome approximately 100 8th graders to campus from
Brushton-Moira, St. Regis Falls, Crown Point, and Schroon Lake schools. The
students will participate in tours of campus, panel discussions with
current SUNY Plattsburgh students, and activities in Hartman Theater and
the Art Gallery created specifically for the day by our theater department
and museum staff and volunteers. The 8th graders will also take part in
reflective activities developed and led by our talented Education graduate
students. After lunch and photos with Burghy, I will present each of them
with certificates that promise them admission to SUNY Plattsburgh provided
they meet our requirements.
As noted in Plattsburgh Next
<https://www.plattsburgh.edu/_documents/about/plattsburgh-next.pdf>, IBAC
is directly aligned with our strategic commitment to support student
enrollment and engage the North Country. This program is designed to
increase local students' accessibility to and interest in college, and to
support future students and their families as early in their academic
careers as possible.
I would like to thank SUNY Associate Andrea Enyedi and EHHS Dean Denise
Simard who implemented and co-lead the IBAC program. I would also like to
recognize the efforts and commitment of the many on campus who have worked
to make this program a success including the IBAC planning committee, staff
and volunteers within the School of Education, the Theater Department, the
Art gallery, Office of Admissions, Office of Marketing, Printing and
Duplicating, Campus Auxiliary Services, Events Management, Maintenance and
Operations, and all our students who are leading tours, participating on
panels, and providing learning opportunities throughout the day.
Please be on the lookout for the IBAC group today, and stop to say hi if
you see them. Our students, faculty and staff are the best part of who we
are, and these 8th graders would benefit from meeting as many Cardinals as
possible. Together, we can show them that their futures start here.
Thank you.
Alexander Enyedi
President
