Dear Campus,

I write to remind you that our Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation (TRHT)
Campus Center will host its first official community event tomorrow,
January 18, The National Day of Racial Healing, from 4:00 - 5:00pm at
the Strand
Center Theatre <https://www.strandcenter.org/> in downtown Plattsburgh.

The National Day of Racial Healing, observed every year on the Tuesday
following Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, is an opportunity to launch our
Center and engage our campus and local communities in conversation and
relationship building. I encourage faculty, staff and students to attend
this in-person event, which will include live and recorded presentations
and will follow all safety protocols.

As you know, SUNY Plattsburgh was selected as one of only 48 TRHT Campus
Centers nationwide and is the first and only SUNY campus to currently hold
such a distinction. I am very proud of our designation and of our work
toward greater inclusivity and equity.

But this necessary work is ongoing and requires a conscious and willing
commitment from all of us, as part of our campus-wide commitment to
transform our communities into places that affirm the inherent value of all
who are minoritized. In order to create a more just and equitable world, we
must continually and collectively address the impacts of racism with the
understanding that racial healing is at the root of racial equity.
I appreciate the TRHT Advisory Committee members for their commitment to
justice on our campus and for their many efforts to plan this event in
acknowledgement of this important day:

   - Elizabeth Bernat, Interim Director Academic Advising
   - Dr. Michelle Bonati, Campus Lead, TRHT Center & Assistant Professor of
   Teacher Education (MSEd)
   - Dr. Vincent Carey, Professor of History & Department Chair
   - Dr. Michele Carpentier, Assistant VP for Special Programs
   - Karin Killough, Director of the Learning Center
   - Jacqueline Madison, President of the North Country Underground
   Railroad Association
   - Courtney Meisenheimer, The City of Plattsburgh Mayor's Office
   - Dr. Jonathan Slater, Professor of Public Relations and Director of our
Institute for Ethics and Public Life

Alexander Enyedi
President
