[Important Information for Employees] SUNY Board of Trustees Appoints New Chancellor

I am very pleased to share with you that the SUNY Board of Trustees has just
announced

the appointment of John B. King Jr. as the 15th chancellor of SUNY.



>From 2011-2015, Chancellor King served as New York State’s first African
American and first Puerto Rican education commissioner before serving as
U.S. Secretary of Education under President Barack Obama. Since 2017, he
has served as President of The Education Trust <https://edtrust.org/>. He
also brings decades of experience as a former high school Social Studies in
San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Boston, Massachusetts



Governor Hochul stated

that Chancellor King is “an ideal leader for the SUNY system” as we work
toward “our ambitious goal of transforming SUNY into the top statewide
system of public higher education in the country.”



The Board unanimously approved Chancellor King’s appointment following a
year-long global search. He will replace Deborah F. Stanley who has been
serving as interim chancellor since December 2021.



I look forward to working with Chancellor King. His decades of experience
and his demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in
public education will allow us all to best serve and support student
success.
