Dear Colleagues,

I imagine that this is a busy time, and I hope you will take a few minutes
to review the information and details of how to report experiences of
discrimination, harassment, and/or violence and the college's current
policies, reporting options and available resources.

Students are our number one priority, and at times they come to you first
after experiencing discrimination or violence. The way in which they are
received in that moment is so important, and simultaneously may be
intimidating for the person receiving the information. Please know that you
are not alone if unsure how to approach situations like this. Also know
that there are resources to support you so that you do not violate the
safety of others and so that you are empowered to communicate your
responsibilities as an employee.

Conversely, students or colleagues may come to you for support if they have
been accused of discrimination or violence. Resources are available for all
members of our campus - regardless the circumstances. You may access some
resources here
<https://www.plattsburgh.edu/plattslife/health-safety/title-ix/title-ix-policies.html>
.

Students received a similar email earlier last week; however, this
information is not just for our students, it is also here for your support.

Regulations for Title IX

As of August 14th, 2020, the US Department of Education implemented new
regulations for Title IX. Here are some things that we think are important
to highlight in regards to these changes:

   -

   As a result of the regulations, SUNY Plattsburgh has created a
   stand-alone policy to respond to reports which fall under the federal
   mandates. You can find that policy here
   <https://www.plattsburgh.edu/plattslife/health-safety/title-ix/title-ix-policies.html>
   .
   -

   Regardless of whether or not the report falls under the new regulation,
   SUNY Plattsburgh WILL respond to all reports regardless of whether they
   occurred on or off-campus under our previously established policies (and
   the purview of 129-B, VAWA):

   -

   Sexual Harassment & Sexual Violence Policy
   <https://www.plattsburgh.edu/about/offices-divisions/administration-finance/management-services/campus-handbook/section-ii-affirmative-action-equal-opportunity/sexual-violence-policy.html>
   -

   Interpersonal Violence Policy
   <https://www.plattsburgh.edu/about/offices-divisions/administration-finance/management-services/campus-handbook/section-ii-affirmative-action-equal-opportunity/interpersonal-violence-policy.html>
   -

   Student Conduct Manual
   <https://www.plattsburgh.edu/_documents/student-conduct/student-conduct-manual-2019-2020-rev-oct.pdf>

   -

   Despite the option to increase time frames on our process from 60 days
   to 90 days, SUNY Plattsburgh will maintain a 60-day timeline for processing
   formal reports of sexual and/or interpersonal violence.
   -

   Despite the option to increase the burden of proof during adjudication
   through our Student Conduct system to be clear and convincing, we are
   maintaining the standard of preponderance of evidence (more likely than
   not).

As in previous semesters, please continue collaborative efforts to address
violence and to change the culture of the college. This includes linking
students, faculty, and staff to resources on campus and sharing information
that may come to you about violence, discrimination, or gender inequity. If
you would like more information, please contact me -

Sending good wishes for a safe and enriching semester.
