[Important Information for Employees] With Appreciation

Dear Faculty and Staff Colleagues,

As we prepare for our in-person commencement events tomorrow, I am struck
by a feeling of deep gratitude for all the work accomplished by each of you
over the past semester. Your efforts have made a difference in the lives of
all students who were part of our campus this spring, but most especially
our 2021 graduates.

Thank you for all you have done to care for the well-being of our students
and ensure successful degree completion of our seniors.

Through your work and caring, you demonstrated how the Cardinal Community
comes together to support not only students, but each other.

You persevered and helped lead our students through the challenges they
faced. From faculty altering courses and providing flexibility, to staff
managing the ups and downs of isolation and quarantine for positive cases,
we served our students well.

Although we have been successful, I know this effort has happened under
conditions that have been tough and stressful. I want to acknowledge how
much each of you gave this past year. The spring 2020 semester and the fall
semester were difficult. The past spring was perhaps the most challenging
of all, with the culminating effects of distancing, shifting guidance,
fatigue and everything else leaving us more than ready for a return to
normalcy.

But together we made it.

Moving forward, we will continue to learn from the COVID semesters as we
plan through the remainder of spring and summer for the upcoming fall. Some
restrictions will persist as we work toward a fall that looks and feels
like the past, but I have faith that lessons from our COVID-related work
will serve to help us face whatever challenges lie ahead.

As you continue to contribute to this effort, and other work like our
Plattsburgh Next strategic planning process, please know that it is our
shared experiences that makes SUNY Plattsburgh distinctive and how grateful
I am for each of you.
