SENT ON BEHALF OF JOSEE LAROCHELLE, VICE PRESIDENT FOR ADMINISTRATION AND
FINANCE

Dear SUNY Plattsburgh Employees,

As we are getting comfortable with on-campus work and weekly testing, there
are a few items we need your assistance with in ensuring a safe and healthy
work and learning environment. First and foremost, please respect each
other and be kind to one another. We have all experienced an overwhelming
year. But keep in mind we all have the same goal – supporting our students
in achieving their academic goals.

First – Testing

Weekly pool surveillance testing is mandatory for all employees reporting
to campus for work. The weekly testing is going very smoothly with the
employee self-testing and drop off process. However, there are challenges
related to technology that sometimes prevent us from knowing who
participated in testing. To ensure compliance with the mandatory testing
we are obligated to verify participation. The way SUNY Plattsburgh
validates participation in pool testing is through the SUNY Plattsburgh ID
card reader or through the QR code if dropping your test off at UP.
Sometimes the card reader or the QR code does not register participation.
While each employee registers the test kit with the SUNY Upstate Medical
University COVID-19 test system, SUNY Plattsburgh does not have access to
this information until well after all the tests are completed and this
information does not differentiate employees from students. Therefore,
that information is not available to use to verify participation.

Following each full week of mandatory pool testing, a notification is sent
out to any employee for which we do not have information from the scanned
ID or QR code. This notification includes a link to a form with options to
explain the discrepancy, including providing verification of participation
through the SUNY Upstate test registration, or a reason for
non-participation.

We have been notified that the card reader at the testing site was not
working properly last Wednesday, March 3, and Monday March 8. If you
receive a notification but you did participate, forward the registration
confirmation email so that we can update our records.

Secondly – Face Coverings, Social Distancing, and Cleaning

We must remain vigilant in adherence to our campus Face Coverings and
Social Distancing policy. As members of our campus community and the
surrounding community are being vaccinated, the weather is getting sunny
and warmer, and the State restrictions on gatherings are loosening, we have
an obligation to our community, our co-workers, and our students to reduce
the COVID-19 infection rate.

As for cleaning, the Maintenance & Operations staff are continuing to deep
clean and sanitize all campus areas on a nightly basis. We are also
replenishing the Red Buckets with cleaning products for everyone to use
through the day. If you need additional cleaning products, let us know by
placing a ReADY Request work order.
