[Important Information for Employees] Cardinal Athletics to Start Spring Sports

Dear Campus Community,

I am pleased to share that SUNY Chancellor Jim Malatras and the presidents
of the State University of New York Athletic Conference have approved the
resumption of spring intercollegiate athletics.

This is an exciting day for our spring student-athletes and dedicated
coaches, who had their seasons affected a year ago. For Cardinal Athletics,
this includes baseball, softball, track and field, women's tennis, and
men's and women's lacrosse.

I want to commend Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Mike Howard, who as
chair of the SUNYAC Governing Body played a pivotal role throughout this
process. I also want to thank Director John Kanoza and the Clinton County
Health Department for providing review and helpful direction in finalizing
our plans.

As with all of our decisions, the health and safety of our students, full
campus community and wider region are front of our minds. Accordingly, this
planned resumption is contingent on the continued positive trajectory
locally and across the state of the COVID-19 virus. Student-athletes,
coaching staff, officials, media members and game day personnel are
expected to be masked at all times, though student-athletes are not
mandated to wear masks once they enter the contest. Uniform standards for
student conduct and behavior have also not changed and will be enforced.

Another change: Spectators will not be permitted to attend yet. Future
decisions on spectator attendance will follow state, SUNY, health
department and related guidelines.

This is a positive first step. As we emerge from the pandemic, it is my
hope that fall and winter sports will also be able to return to schedules
and intercollegiate competition. We look forward to those days.

Schedules and other details on the resumption will be *shared on the
Cardinal Athletics website* <https://gocardinalsports.com/> and social
media platforms.
