Dear Campus Community,

The first round of pooled-sample COVID-19 surveillance testing for more
than 500 students will be done Wednesday, Sept. 2 in Algonquin Dining Hall
from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m.

Testing is set to continue on Wednesdays, Sept. 9 and Sept. 16 until all
approximately 1,600 on-campus students are tested. We have adjusted from
our original schedule to ensure our timely processing of results from SUNY
Upstate Medical University.

I am pleased we are able to provide this aggressive testing and we will
look to expand from this initial pool later. Students selected for
first-round testing over the next three Wednesdays will be given a specific
appointment time and detailed instructions to prepare for the test. All
students selected are expected to participate.

A reminder: Appointment times cannot be adjusted. Accordingly, if the
testing protocol interferes with students’ ability to attend class then
faculty should make accommodations.

Surveillance pool testing uses a saliva-testing method. Students administer
the test themselves by swabbing the inside of their mouth for 10 to 15
seconds and providing the saliva sample to medical personnel. Upstate
medical processes the results and advises us where isolation may be
indicated.

I appreciate all you are doing on behalf of our students and the campus
community.

Dr. Alexander Enyedi
President
