[Important Information for Employees] Appointment Announcement: School of Education, Health, and Human Services

Colleagues,

I am pleased to announce that effective October 29th, Dr. Denise Simard
will assume the permanent position of Dean of the School of Education,
Health, and Human Services. As you may know, Dr. Simard is in her 4th year
serving as the Interim Dean of EHHS, having been appointed in July 2017.
She began her career at SUNY Plattsburgh in 2004 as an Assistant Professor
in the Special Education Department and was promoted to the rank of Full
Professor in 2017. In 2008, Denise began serving as chairperson of the
Undergraduate Teacher Education Department, and in addition to this
leadership role, from 2010-2017, she also began working as Associate Dean
for her school. Prior to joining SUNY Plattsburgh, Denise served as a
special education teacher in the local area; a Program Coordinator for the
Online Learning and Distance Education Division and Program Manager of the
Policy to Practices Division at the Johns Hopkins University’s Center for
Technology in Education; and Education Coordinator  at Learning
Independence Through Computers. Her areas of interest and research include
multiculturalism, special education, assistive technology, online learning,
communities of practice, the mental health of college students, and most
recently, women in leadership in higher education.

Since I joined this campus in July 2020 as Provost and Vice President of
Academic Affairs, I have found Denise to be a thoughtful, collaborative,
and highly skilled academic leader who has been invaluable to me during my
transition period. At a time of significant institutional challenge with
the pandemic and budgetary pressures, I feel very fortunate to have Denise
as a member of my Cabinet who brings extensive historical campus knowledge
to our work together. She is a strong advocate for each of her departments
and her school with student learning outcomes and faculty concerns always
at the foreground of her thinking. I hope you will join me in wishing Dr.
Denise Simard your sincerest congratulations on her appointment to the
position of Dean of the School of Education, Health, and Human Services.
