Dear Campus Community,
The college recorded five new COVID-19 cases on Sunday. Over the past 14
days, 73 total cases have been recorded.
Three of the new cases were identified through Thursday's pooled
surveillance testing. Two were identified separately.
A positive case identified through Thursday's testing has been previously
reported and one pool of 12 samples taken Thursday remains to be tested.
The balance of Thursday's samples were negative and participating students
have been notified.
Results from the last pools taken on Friday will be shared both directly to
students and to campus when available.
Many of you have already left the Plattsburgh area or will be returning
home soon. As we all transition to Thanksgiving break, followed by fully
remote classes for the rest of the semester, I ask you to take the Cardinal
Pledge each day wherever you are: wear your mask, practice social
distancing, wash your hands, avoid large social gatherings, and stay home
when sick.
With a rapid acceleration of cases, COVID-19 is now a factor wherever we
go. Best practices now are crucial to reduce the spread of the virus and to
keep our communities safe.
For those who remain on campus over the next few days, we ask you to limit
gatherings and activities to only those that are necessary.
By direction of the county health department, 117 students (44 on-campus
and 73 off-campus) and one employee are in mandatory or precautionary
quarantine. Additionally, three students are in precautionary isolation
having tested negative with rapid tests but awaiting back-up PCR test
results.
Decisions by the health department for quarantine are based on an
assessment of potential exposure to help prevent possible viral spread.
Those in isolation and quarantine are being released as they recover and
risk times expire. We respect the privacy of those in isolation and
quarantine and will support them. If you are aware, please also respect
their privacy.
Dr. Alexander Enyedi
President
