Dear colleagues in Academic Affairs,
At SUNY Plattsburgh, the rights of free inquiry and expression are
foundational to our academic community. As required by SUNY Administration
and following their guidance, the President and Cabinet have established a
policy that outlines the appropriate time, place, and manner for public
meetings, demonstrations, and other assemblies on campus. This policy is a
compilation of language that already exists in SUNY Plattsburgh and SUNY
Administration policies, and is designed to ensure that all activities are
conducted in a manner that is safe, orderly, and respectful to all who
work, study, live at and visit the university.
Please take a moment to review the Time, Place, and Manner policy
<https://www.plattsburgh.edu/about/offices-divisions/administration-finance/policies-procedures/campus-handbook/section-ix-legal-compliance/free-expression-and-assembly-policy.html>,
which applies to all members of our campus community. This policy clarifies
the expectations for organizing and participating in events on campus, and
it outlines prohibited activities to maintain a safe and productive
atmosphere.
If you feel negatively impacted by any protest or assembly, you can learn
more about the resources and support available to you through our DIRECT
process <https://www.plattsburgh.edu/plattslife/diversity/direct.html>,
which is designed to provide guidance and assistance.
Thank you for your attention to these important guidelines as we continue
to foster a campus environment that values free expression while upholding
the integrity and safety of our shared spaces.
Sincerely,
Marcus Tye
