[Academic-Affairs] DEI Reminders: Upcoming events

Colleagues,

Snowy day here in Plattsburgh.  Looking more like I expected the "North
Country" to look in January.  Hope everyone is staying safe on the roads.

One quick reminder: If you have not already done so, please take some time
to complete the 3 modules assigned to all employees focused on Diversity,
Equity, and Inclusion topics.  The completion target date is 1/31/23.

Just wanted to send a quick reminder of two important happenings next
week.  You may have seen in our digest that we have an annual MLK Day
Celebration planned for the Newman Center on Monday at 1:30 p.m.  Our new
VP of DEI (Allison Heard) will be the featured speaker, and our MLK Singers
will also be performing.  I always feel lifted by their music, as I know is
the case for so many on our campus.

Second, the National Day of Racial Healing program on our campus.
Information has been publicized in the Digest, and I'm pasting in below.
Come for part or all of this community event:

Join us for a watch party followed by a discussion to examine our local
communities' progress in racial healing. We will be streaming episodes from
the digital series “Changing the Narrative
<https://healourcommunities.org/day-of-racial-healing2/watch/>,” developed
in partnership by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation (WKKF) and NBCUniversal. This
series documents powerful stories from communities across the country where
people are working together to create lasting change.

*When:* Tuesday, January 17, 2023, ~ 1:30-4:30 PM

*Where:* The H.U.B. in the Angell College Center on SUNY Plattsburgh Campus

*Format:* The watch party will be divided into three one-hour long
sessions. In each session, we will screen a different episode from the
digital series, followed by a discussion led by a SUNY Plattsburgh Truth,
Racial Healing, and Transformation Center member.
