first colloquoy of Fall semester from the Institute for Ethics in
Public Life will be held in the Thomas Moran Seminar Room (Hawkins 233)
starting at noon on Wednesday, Sept. 7. We will be having an informal
discussion on "citizenship in an age of political and social turmoil",
led/moderated by the interim Director of the Institute, Dr. Daniel Lake.
<br></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:times new roman,serif"><br></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:times new roman,serif">To
say the least, we live in turbulent times. In the United States alone
we have seen several significant social and political movements arise
since 2000 including the Tea Party Movement, Occupy Wall Street, Black
Lives Matter, a renewed women's rights movement, and the various groups
that make up the alt-right, to name a few. This social and political
ferment is a widespread phenomenon, and it is both caused by and
contributes to phenomena like political polarization and political
violence. When this is our world, what does it mean to be a citizen?</div>
