Over 100,000 migrants chose to cross the border into Canada from the U.S., via Roxham Road, an unofficial rural crossing between New York state and Quebec. These irregular border crossings enabled migrants to apply for asylum in Canada, as the Safe Third Country Agreement between Canada and the United States, did not apply to unofficial ports of entry. In response to this migration crisis, in March 2023, Ottawa and Washington negotiated an updated agreement, applying to the entire border. With rare exceptions, migrants must now claim asylum in the country of their arrival. What remains of the migration crisis at the Canada-U.S. border as of December 2023? Does a migration crisis still persist?</span></p><p class="qowt-stl-normalweb"><span style="font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif">NOTE: As a reception will take place immediately after the discussion concludes, your kind RSVP,</span><span class="qowt-font1-calibri"><span style="font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif"> either by email to </span></span><a href="mailto:lbeda001@plattsburgh.edu"><span style="font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif">lbeda001@plattsburgh.edu</span></a><span class="qowt-font1-calibri"><span style="font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif"> or by calling 518-564-2383 by Friday, December 1st to help us confirm catering needs would be highly appreciated.</span></span><span style="font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif"></span></p><p style="margin:0in"><span style="font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif"> </span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto"><a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/17CQ9hKHyXT5TA_Tl3THi_W6MtyVXWGvD/view?usp=sharing">https://drive.google.com/file/d/17CQ9hKHyXT5TA_Tl3THi_W6MtyVXWGvD/view?usp=sharing</a></p><p class="MsoNormal"> </p><p class="MsoNormal"> </p><p class="MsoNormal">LIZA BEDARD</p><p class="MsoNormal">Office Assistant II</p><p class="MsoNormal">SUNY Plattsburgh</p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:#1d2228">Center for the Study of Canada & Institute on Quebec Studies</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:black">(o) 518-564-2383</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><a href="mailto:lbeda001@plattsburgh.edu" target="_blank"><span style="color:blue">lbeda001@plattsburgh.edu</span></a></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="background:white"><b><span style="font-size:10.0pt"> </span></b></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="background:white"><span style="font-size:10.0pt;color:#4472c4"> </span></p><p class="MsoNormal"> </p></div></body></html>
