part of the challenges Ukraine will face rebuilding after the war will
be issues of transitional justice. Due to its incomplete transition to
democracy, the brutality of the Russian invasion, and the presence of a
large ethnic Russian population within Ukraine post-conflict demands for
justice are likely to be very strong and hard for the Ukrainian
government to meet. Dr. Murphy will discuss the nature of the
transitional justice demands facing a post-war Ukraine and the ways they
may, or may not, be satisfied.<br></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:times new roman,serif"><br></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:times new roman,serif"></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:times new roman,serif"></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:times new roman,serif">Dr. Murphy is an Associate Professor of Political Science at SUNY Oneonta.
His research focuses on problems of regime change and post-conflict
stability, including "transitional justice" or dealing with the legacies
of an authoritarian or violent past. Ongoing research projects concern
the effects of transitional justice policies, such as criminal
prosecution and screening/lustration, on outcomes such as democracy,
human rights, regime consolidation, and political identity.
