How does one belong to a community with such a fractured understanding of membership? This talk will look at the meaning systems of belonging in Acadia, and the challenges these meaning systems present for a diaspora that consistently argue for and against the value of language as part of community membership.</p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="background:yellow"> </span></p><p class="MsoNormal">Presenter's Short Bio:</p><p class="MsoNormal">Dr. Christina Keppie is Director of the Center for Canadian-American Studies at Western Washington University and also serves as the President of the Association for Canadian Studies in the United states. </p><p class="MsoNormal">Dr. Keppie’s teaching and research interests focus on language attitudes, ideology, and the role of festivals and celebrations in the construction of Acadian diasporic identity as revealed through an ethnographic framework, on which she has published widely throughout her career.
