the last few years there have been a large number of new laws and
policies that restrict what teachers can teach. Starting with political
candidates claiming that "critical race theory" is being used to
indoctrinate students, there has been a concerted effort to prevent
teachers from teaching their students about race, ethnicity, sexality,
and gender, all in the name of "parent choice". This has resulted in a
wave of new book bans and gag orders such as the notorious "Don't Say
Gay" bill and Stop WOKE Act in Florida. This panel will discuss why this
is happening and the impact it is having on teachers and students in the
classrooms where these new laws apply.</div>
