<div dir="ltr"><div>Good morning,</div><div><br></div><div>Please be advised that the latest round of phishing scams hitting campus inboxes are a bit more elaborate than usual and several folks have been caught up in the scams.</div><div><br></div><div>Here is an example of the latest scam:</div><div><br></div><div><img src="cid:ii_mpmoprol0" alt="image.png" width="543" height="218"><br></div><div><br></div><div><div style="box-sizing:border-box;color:rgb(30,30,69);font-family:"DM Sans",sans-serif;font-size:14px">You'll notice the following:</div></div><div style="box-sizing:border-box;color:rgb(30,30,69);font-family:"DM Sans",sans-serif;font-size:14px"><ul><li>Its coming from a compromised campus account. </li><li>The account is being used to send messages advertising a "remote research assistant position"</li><li>Indicates that the position will be supervised by a legitimate faculty member on campus - in this case "Dr. Michael Walters"</li><li>Asking students to apply to an email address that ends in <a class="gmail_plusreply" id="plusReplyChip-0">@gmail.com</a></li><li>Email is signed "Office of Academic Programs"</li></ul><div>If you respond to this message or respond back to the @<a href="http://gmail.com">gmail.com</a> account, here's what happens:</div><div><ul><li>The bad actor conducts a fake interview over email, indicates that there is some required equipment to purchase.</li><li>They send you a "reimbursement" check for the equipment. </li><li>If you deposit the check it will not clear and they will request partial payment from you to move forward on the equipment sale.</li><li>You get scammed out of Money!!!!</li></ul></div></div><div><br></div><div><b>PLEASE DO NOT ENGAGE WITH THIS EMAIL or any other email like it. </b></div><div><br></div><div><h2>“STOP – LOOK – VERIFY”</h2>
