Richard Boas, retired chief of University Police, passed Friday, Dec. 6, 2024, in Tavares, Florida, where he made his home. He was 78.</p><p class="MsoNormal">Director Boas began his career at SUNY Plattsburgh in October 1985 as an assistant director of what was then called Campus Public Safety at a time when these state peace keepers had only recently been given permission to issue appearance tickets. Promoted to director of public safety, he ushered in the move from public safety to full-fledged state University Police in 1999.
