Dear Cardinal Community,

I am writing to share information on neighboring Clinton Community College and our campus.

This morning, the community college shared details with their campus on their enrollment, finances and accreditation. They have concluded these facts require them to operate differently to ensure their future success. A copy of President Kowal's own campus message and their FAQs are attached.

Clinton Community College has a proud history, a wealth of local graduates and offers two-year degrees and other programming that are vital to our area. We have long been a partner in assisting the community college, with dual admissions and a dual degree program the most recent. Now, we are being called on to help more directly.

Beginning this month, we will learn more about their specific needs and begin working with them, the SUNY system and Clinton County officials on ways we can assist. Just what this will look like, when and how will be developed over time. What is being contemplated is the physical relocation of their academic operations and some level of shared services that can be contracted with us. Most realistic would be a fall 2025 transition, though other aspects could be sooner.

It is important to note that while we face many of the same macro-challenges as some of our peer institutions, we are not at risk in the same way as some and not at the same crossroads. As outlined from the advent of Plattsburgh Next, through the Fall Welcome, and in regular conversations across campus, our focus is on future-proofing this campus through the programs and services we provide, embracing the changing landscape and doing this work together -- building on the commitment, capacity and the care we share to make it happen.

This is what sets us apart from others and sets us up for success. In fact, it is our sound financial position, clear direction and future focus that even lets SUNY, Clinton Community College, and the county look to us for assistance in this way. It is a validation of our path.

Our commitment to higher education and the North Country region represents who we are and is a pillar of the Plattsburgh Next strategic plan. Our focus will be to make any arrangement advantageous to both institutions and ensure there is no detrimental financial impact on our campus.

This is the beginning of their exploring of options. As conversations and questions develop, I will both keep our campus advised of key developments and involve various offices here directly as potential paths are assessed.

Alex Enyedi

President
